According to the custom’s statistics, the import and export trade value of Mengla Port in 2010 reached 753 million USD, a year-on-year increase of 44.6 percent. Import trade stood at 134 million USD, an increase of 57.7 percent from a year earlier; and export trade gained 619 million USD, up 42.1 percent.
Import and export freight volume was 754,000 tons, an increase of 37.6 percent year on year. Imports comprised of 467,400 tons, up 55.5 percent, while exports reached 286,500 tons, a 15.9 percent increase.
Kunming-Bangkok Highway has initially released considerable economic power. Through Mohan Port, fresh fruits and vegetables from Southwest China will be sold in supermarkets and farmer’s markets in Bangkok, Thailand within two and half days. According to figures, in 2010, freights imported and exported through Mengla Port scaled 617,000 tons or 547 million USD in value, up 59.5 percent compared with a year earlier. It made up 81.88 percent of total imports and exports volume of Mengla Port in 2010, up from 69 percent in 2009.
Guanlei Dock along the Kunming-Bangkok Highway represents another beneficiary of the China section of the highway. The imports and exports value of Guanlei Port throughout the year by the Lancang River-Mekong International Waterway has increased significantly. Iimport and export cargo reached 134,200 tons, valued at 175 million USD, a year-on-year growth of 19.7 percent.
Customs clearance at Mengla Port has helped boost fruit, vegetable and flower trade. In 2010, import-export of vegetables through the port was 76,879 tons, an increase of 25.9 percent compared to the same period last year with an achieved trade value of 121 million USD, up 97.3 percent. Fruits trade totaled 56,958 tons, down 9.5 percent, with a trade value of 80.14 million USD, a 45.3 percent increase. Flowers contributed 6,392 tons, an increase of 76.2 percent, with a trade value of 13.91 million USD, up 73.9 percent.
