Yongning Headman Office was originally built at Kaiji Bridge, known as Kaijiwa’a to the Mosuo. It hosted the office of the first headman (leader) until 1879, when Ahengfang took office. The architecture, although once was grand, is now in ruins beneath a 10-year-old ginkgo tree following many wars and fires.
Later on, the headman office was built at Zhongshi, comprising two courtyards. The headman office looked spectacular. Guard rooms were located on two sides of the entry gate. The outer court contained a council room, reception room, general office, interrogation room and guard bedroom. The inner court had a tower building connected on four sides.
There were two 100-year-old pagoda trees near the office gate. Today, the pagoda trees remain, but other buildings have been left in ruins, except for the tower building in the inner court. Although little has been left standing, the former appearance of the headman office remains visible.
