Yongning Hot Spring

Yongning Hot Spring, located in Hot Spring Village near the northern tip of Yongning Dam, is located 10 kilometers from the Yongning township government seat and 30 kilometers from Lugu Lake.

Spring water gushes from rock crevices at the foot of Wudu Mountain at rate of about 60 cubic meters an hour. The water, clear year round, is fit for bathing during any season. Yongning Hot Spring is said to be hot enough to boil an egg. Later, the water temperature gradually drops. It has a constant temperature of 37°C. The water contains hydrogen sulfide, which has been considered beneficial to human bodies, especially in the treatment of skin diseases and rheumatic arthritis.

In the past, Yongning Hot Spring was only a 50-square-meter natural pond. In the slack season, neighboring residents would come to have a bath, and picnic in the field. It was also a site to make friends. Mosuo young men and women would bathe in the same spring, play and have a picnic on the shore. At night, pairs of lovers slept under the stars near the spring. Today there are separate bathing rooms for men and women. Hotels and shops are nearby.
