Conservation and environmental activists have raised their voices to oppose redevelopment plans for the Central Government Offices (CGO) in the city as the public consultation period will draw to a close at the end of the year on Friday.
It should have been a moving scene when the first batch of stranded Hong Kong students arrived home from the snowbound London Heathrow Airport last week and raced out into the loving arms of their parents in tears of joy as if they were some lucky survivors from a holocaust reuniting with their beloved. But one cannot help but frown upon these spoiled youngsters. The first thing they did was nothing but whining and complaining about the poor treatment they received at the Heathrow and the messy management of airlines companies.
Analysts cautioned Wednesday that the scrapping of tax incentives for buyers of small cars on the mainland may curb car sales in the short term but market growth and other support measures such as subsidies to fuel-efficient cars will help offset the impact to some extent.
It was one of those rare nights when Hong Kong gets cold. The temperature was still dropping. Two nights later Hong Kong would suffer its coldest night in 11 years. The Hong Kong Observatory had warned of the cold snap days earlier but the unexpected rain that came with it only made things worse.
