The Qinghai-Tibet Power Grid Interconnection Project is expected to be completed by the end of 2011, 9 months earlier than planned in September of 2012, source from the construction project headquarters on Feb 15, 2011.

As one of the 23 key projects of the Western Development Strategy opened in 2010, the project aims to ease the power shortage in Tibet and optimize Qinghai's energy distribution, which will play an important role in Qinghai and Tibet's sustainable social and economic development.

So far it has been the largest power transmission project on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau known as the "Roof of the World".
