Taxies to get detectors
(Shenzhen Daily)
Updated: 2005-04-14 11:13

IT will be impossible to loose luggage in some Guangzhou’s taxies after they are equipped with luggage detectors this week.

The Guangzhou Public Transport Group has installed infrared detectors on 100 taxi trunks to remind forgetful passengers that they have luggage.

The detector will send a message to a monitor below the price meter as soon as luggage goes in the trunk. Passengers will see the message “Please take your luggage when get off” when seeing how much the trip cost.

The new equipment should be a great help for passengers. More than 50 passengers left their luggage in taxies each day in Guangzhou and they find it difficult to get it back because few remember the taxi number.

The company will install detectors on all of its 1,600 taxies. Each detector costs 160 yuan (US$19) and each taxi needs two.
