The one-month birthday party of a villager's baby boy turned out to be a disaster with 21 of the 100 guests sent to hospital for food poisoning, reports South China Morning News.

The guests in Shapo Township, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, started to show symptoms half an hour after the banquet began on Thursday at the home of the villager. The victims, ranging in age from 8 to the 60s, suffered vomiting, diaorrhea and dizziness.

Initial investigation found that the cause might be food contamination because of unhygienic preparation instead of deliberate poisoning as some had suspected.
