Complaints of handset quality on rise

Shanghai residents' complaints about fragile mobile phones, despite their increasingly fancy appearance and functions, are on the rise, reports Oriental Morning Post.

Complaints related to handsets handled by the city's consumer protection hotline have risen an average of about 20 per cent annually over the past three years, officials said, and last year alone, some 3,600 complaints were received.

However, most of the complaints were hard to resolve due to the lack of a national standard regarding handsets' durability, allowing sellers and manufacturers to offer the excuse that consumers' improper use caused the malfunction.
