A student has filed a lawsuit against a Shanghai branch of China Construction Bank accusing it of discrimination against university students from outside the metropolis when issuing credit cards, reports Oriental Morning Post.

Huang Chengyi, a native of Zhejiang Province, said he tried to apply for a credit card last October but there was no response; and he later found that the bank had different criteria for local students and those from outside.

Claiming it was discrimination, Huang filed the suit seeking compensation of about 5,100 yuan (US$615); and when the Luwan District People's Court rejected his plea, he had appealed to a higher court.
