Tap water is expected to become potable in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, by 2008, reports Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.

The municipal government plans to invest 4.3 billion yuan (US$518 million) in water-purification projects this year to provide residents with high-quality drinking water.

Starting from June this year, drinkable tap water will be available in some parts of the city.
