Mysterious tablets bring tourists to peak
The main peak of Taishan Mountain the Yuhuang Peak is the ultimate challenge for mountaineers and a magnet for archaeologists.

IN BRIEF (Page: 6, Date: 03/17/2006)

The peak Ma'anling (Saddle Mountain), located in the Shishan Geopark in Haikou of South China's Hainan Province, wins its name thanks to its twin volcanoes. The Ma'anling volcanoes are the biggest among all volcano clusters that were active between 27,000 to 1 million years ago. The altitudes of its north peak and south peak are 222.2 metres and 186.75 metres respectively, both of which are surrounded by more than 30 smaller sized hills.

No Word Tablet in front of Yuhuang Temple (or Jade Emperor Temple) in Taishan Mountain, earns its name from the absence of characters or paintings on the stone.

Yuhuang Temple (or Jade Emperor Temple), 23.5 metres in length and 28.5 metres wide, was regarded in ancient times as a holy place to worship Heaven.
