The Nanchang Aeronautical Institute in east China's Jiangxi Province launched a four-year major in air attendance Tuesday, the first of its kind in China.
A total of 95 young women enrolled in the major this year. They will obtain bachelor's degrees upon graduation if completing all courses as required.
The students will receive special training on passenger-serving skills, security, customs and manners, and oral English.
The institute plans to increase enrollment of male students in 2004 to train as airline security guards.
Currently, there are some other college courses for flight attendance in China, which last for no more than three years and are not entitled to award bachelor's degrees.
