Shanghai prepares World Expo site
( 2004-01-05 21:00) (Xinhua)

Shanghai has started to relocate enterprises and residents on the site of the 2010 World Expo.

The move was marked by the establishment of Shanghai World Expo Land Holding Co., Ltd on Monday.

The company is responsible for purchasing and developing land for the Expo, and constructing facilities for the event. The registered capital of the company amounts to 6 billion yuan (726 million US dollars).

Shanghai Deputy Mayor Zhou Yupeng said the company should conduct a thorough survey of enterprises and residents and help them to relocate.

The proposed site lies between Nanpu Bridge and Lupu Bridge on both banks of the Huangpu River, one of the most densely populated areas in Shanghai.
