Cellphone messages help convict rapist
( 2004-01-05 15:21) (China Daily HK Edition)

The mobile phone messages sent by a 16-year-old KTV singer desperately seeking help provided the crucial evidence in convicting a man charged with violently raping her in Xuhui District, reports Shanghai Morning Post.

Although the man claimed that Chen voluntarily had sex with him and took off her clothes herself, the 10 messages she sent to one of her friends in 10 minutes showed she had been threatened with violence and forced to have sex.

The local court considered the messages as crucial evidence and convicted the man.
