On-line "Mao memorial hall" visited by millions of people

Internet users have visited the on-line "memorial hall" of late Chinese leader Mao Zedong (1893-1976)for a total of six million times, say its operators.

The memorial site, mzd.chinaspirit.net.cn, was opened jointly by the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Youth League andthe Central Archive Institute on Dec. 26, 2001.

The website runs a dozen literal, visual and audio columns, on topics like Mao's life, political works, and poems.

The visitors have left over 100,000 messages on the site. The operators have published a collection of the messages showing memories of and respect for Mao
