Serial killer executed in Henan
( 2003-12-26 15:38) (Agencies)

A serial killer in central China was executed Friday for the murders of 17 young men that he lured from Internet cafes and video arcades, news reports said.

Huang Yong, 29, was sentenced to death earlier this month, and an appeals court upheld that sentence Friday morning, China Central Television reported.

He was executed later Friday morning in the central province of Henan, where he was tried, the Web sites of several Chinese newspapers reported.

CCTV said Huang hadn't appealed, but death sentences in China are automatically reviewed by a second court. Executions typically take place immediately after the final appeal is exhausted.

Huang was arrested in November after one would-be victim escaped and alerted police.

Police unearthed the remains of more than a dozen young men in Huang's home. Huang reportedly confessed to killing them over the past two years.

His victims were all between 15 and 21 years old, CCTV reported.
