Tariff revenue soars in Shanghai
( 2003-12-22 15:19) (Xinhua)

Shanghai Customs reported a tariff revenue of 78.3 billion yuan (9.46 billion US dollars) by Dec. 8 and said the volume for the whole year would top 80 billion yuan (9.67 billion US dollars).

Shanghai, a major economic powerhouse located in east China, would continue to lead other provinces and municipalities in terms of tariff revenue this year, a customs officer said Monday.

The encouraging result was mainly attributed to efforts to take stricter measures against loopholes in tariff exemptions, provide round-the-clock services, and accelerate the application of information technology to enhance customs supervision over trade companies.
