S. China province bans radio advertising of medical treatments
( 2003-12-09 11:14) (Xinhua)

Hainan Province, in southern China, has banned local radio stations from broadcasting medical therapies, in a bid to curb exaggeration and fraudulent activities in the field.

Meanwhile, television advertisements targeting medical products have come under official scrutiny, according to an order issued by the Medical Department of the provincial government.

Hainan, which is among the first Chinese provinces to restrict medical advertising, launched the crackdown in February.

In China, radio broadcasts are one of the major sources of fraudulent information about medicine and other lucrative products.
