Qinhuai River ( 2003-12-02 16:15) (chinadaily.com.cn)

The Qinhuai River is a tributary to the Yangtze. Over the past few thousand
years, the Qinhuai River has nurtured the ancient city of Nanjing, "Brocade for
miles as the spring winds come, thousands and thousands of families live on the
banks of the river."The area around the Huaihe River gradually became the most
luxuriant area in Nanjing, with many powerful families of more or less equal
influence setting up residence on either bank of the Huaihe River. The
prosperousness of the area spawned golden towers and a sea of closely packed
buildings. The river-side buildings near the Confucian temple are decked with
exquisite wind stills and silk characters, pearl window curtains for miles
around, and the splendor of the light from boats bests anywhere else. Many
scenic sights, historic relics, and great events can be found here, all stuff
that is reflected in historic literature and poetry about the area.
