Nanjing Hexi new urban district locates to the west of the old Nanjing, also to the west of the Out Ginhuai River and Fengtai South Road, to the north of the New Qinhuai River and to the east of Yangtse River. Now it has an area of 55.7 square kilometers with a population of 210,000. after a development of 5 to 10 years, it will become a symbolic district that can accommodate a population of 560,000 in modernized Nanjing.

In the new urban district, much attention will be paid to the riverside feature and zoology conception. At the Riverside Sightseeing Band, entertainment park, maritime museum, sea-park and other cultural and entertainment facilities will be established. Hexi new urban district will be a leisure resort in the west of the main body characterized with river.

Hexi Section of Subway Route 1 will run through underground in Oct,2003, and in 2005, the route will be open to traffic; Subway Route 2 will be constructed in 2005 and be open to traffic in 2009. Yuantong Station in Hexi district is a subway transfer station besides Xinjiekou Station in Nanjing. The backbone road network of "live latitudinal and seven longitudinal" has been designed and constructed, with the total length of 43km, and six sightseeing avenues will be completed before the 10th National Games. In order to salute the hosting of the 10th National Games in 2005, the northern section of Hexi district will be comprehensively renovated by the demand of the "green and human-oriented" conception. In addition, the construction of the 3rd Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge and the renovation of the Outer Qinhuai River will further facilitate the transportation and improve the quality an Hexi nre urban district.

After a development of 3 to 5 years, Central Business District (CBD) in Hexi district will become a golden business district with high cultural character and outstanding quality, and will be the symbolic district which embody the new look of modernized Nanjing. At present, ten landmark buildings for business, commercial and guesthouse style apartment have been determined in Hexi,CBD with the total floor space of 1,600,000 square meters.
