President Hu calls for stability, law, order
( 2003-11-23 10:46) (Xinhua)

Chinese President Hu Jintao on Saturday called on the country's public security departments to improve social stability and law and order, and protect the legitimate rights of the public.

Addressing a discussion attended by a group of police officers attending a national meeting on public security, the president urged police across the country to do their utmost to serve the general public.

Among those attending the discussion were Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, Vice-President Zeng Qinghong, and other senior Communist Party leaders.

Hu, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said police departments should improve their performance and carry out their duty in conformity with the will of the people.

Governments and the Party organizations at various levels should understand the extreme importance of safeguarding social stability, work hard to maintain stability, and improve their leadership of public security organizations, the president said.
