Boy, 15, charged with stabbing classmate
( 2003-11-06 15:15) (Agencies)

Police charged a 15-year-old boy with murder Wednesday after the fatal stabbing of a fellow student at a small village school.

The killing Tuesday shocked Britain and raised questions about school security. Police said Wednesday that Luke Walmsley, 14, died from a single stab wound to the heart at Birkbeck School in the village of North Somercotes, near Louth in eastern England.

The 15-year-old suspect, whose name has not been released, is due to appear at Skegness Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Walmsley was stabbed Tuesday morning in a school corridor.

John Stevens, head of the school's board of governors, said the death "is so out of character that it's almost unbelievable that it should happen in our school.

"Obviously there have been the odd occasions when there's been a little bit of, say, bullying, but there has never been anything of this scale, it's never worried us," Stevens said.
