White ants blamed for trees' self-burning

White ants were blamed for several tree fires in recent days, the Shanghai Morning Post reported.A Chinese parasol tree on Sinan Lu caught fire by itself suddenly earlier this week. Experts said the tree dried up after white ant erosion took place. Only some highly inflammable wood fibres are left. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to a residential building only two metres away. White ant damaage was also found on a tree 10 metres away. Several cases of tree auto-combustion have happened several times in the city.
