American artist Alex Katz, 89, is known as a precursor of pop art movement for his portraits and landscapes that feature a boldly reductive style and aggravated coloring.

The London-based Timothy Taylor gallery will present Katz's first large-scale exhibition in Shanghai over Nov 7-13, as part of the annual West Bund Art and Design expo.

On show will be a dozen Katz works, including iconic pieces such as portraits of his wife, Ada, whom he married in 1958 and has featured in some 250 of his paintings, still flowers and changing landscapes surrounding his SOHO studio in New York, where he has worked for nearly 50 years.
