BEIJING - Animal epidemic prevention equipment valued at 200,000 yuan ($29,300) has reached Tibet Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu, said Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) Saturday.

The equipment includes protective clothing, safety goggles, protective face masks and disposable gloves, according to a statement posted on the ministry's web site.

The equipment was mainly for animal carcass disposal, said the ministry.

The ministry has also sped up the approval process in producing certain quake-relief vaccines in a bid to ensure adequate supply.

The ministry transported more than 20,000 disinfection sets, sprayers and protective suits to the quake zone earlier.

The safe disposal of dead cattle was already completed in Jiegu Town, the quake's epicenter, according to the ministry.

The MOA is taking action to prevent the plague, anthrax and echinococcosis, a disease caused by the tapeworm's larvae, from spreading.

More than 2,100 people and about 41,000 livestock were killed in the magnitude-7.1 earthquake that jolted Yushu on April 14.
