Charity show raises 2.175b yuan in donations

China Central Television (CCTV), the country's largest and most powerful national television station, has started a fund-raising program, supported by other regional TV stations and news portals, to raise money for quake relief in Yushu, Qinghai province. The program started at 20:00 April 20, 2010 and is broadcast in Chinese and Tibetan.

The program, entitled "Heart with Yushu, Love Has No Borders," is organized by the Red Cross Society of China.

China Daily, the national English-language newspaper, has donated five million yuan ($732,450) to relief efforts in the quake zone.

The charity TV show has raised 2.175 billion yuan (about $319 million) in donations for the quake-hit Yushu region, Xinhua News Agency reported.

The donations came from the country's performing artists, well-known figures and both private and state-owned enterprises.
