A flurry of snow hit the Tibetan Autonomous Region of Yushu in northwestern China's Qinghai Province Saturday noon, aggravating the misery endured by survivors of the earthquake.

The snowfall began on 1:30 pm and lasted about 10 minutes. Friday's weathercast also said snow would be expected on Saturday.

In Yushu, rescuers still race against time to save every possible survivor, while high altitudes and bad weather have made rescue work very difficult.

The 7.1-magnitude quake that hit Yushu early Wednesday has left at least 1,144 people dead, 11,744 injured and 417 missing.
