Foreign Minister Wang Yi Wednesday reinstated China's view to nudge the regional situation in the right direction for the Middle East, as the situation has reached a crucial crossroads.
Wang made the remarks during a news conference during the 2017 two sessions.
Wang raised three points of crucial importance.
"First, we need to maintain international consensus on fighting terrorism. Second, we need to adhere to the right goal of seeking a political settlement of the regional issues. Third, we must put the UN in the driver's seat of the Middle East peace process. "
While honoring the Iranian nuclear agreement as a fine example of settling disputes by political and diplomatic means, Wang stated that "the issue of Palestine is an open wound in the Middle East. "
"China firmly supports the two-state solution, and will continue to do what we can to restart the peace talks," he said.
When asked about the Saudi king's upcoming China visit, Wang said that China welcomes the king and hopes he will pay a state visit soon.
"We hope Saudi Arabia and Iran can settle their differences through equal-footed and friendly consultation," the foreign minister said.
"China is the mutual friend of the two countries. If you so desire, China will play its due role," Wang added.
