The boat remained missing as of 4 pm Tuesday, even though rescuers have widened the search off the coast of eastern Zhejiang province, maritime officials in charge of the search said.

Two helicopters, two search boats, and a number of fishing boats are seaching for the missing vessel.

The boat, registered in the port city of Wenling, lost contact with its company, Wenling Shitang Fishing Co, Ltd, at about 2 am Sunday, at 122 degrees east longitude and 28 degrees north latitude, according to a local boat monitoring system. The 34-meter-long boat set sail at 10:09 pm Saturday from Shitang Port.

Rescuers said they have found 200 plastic fishing containers floating in the sea near where the boat was last contacted but it has not yet been determined whether these belong to the missing boat.
