RIA Novosti: The West hopes for more socialism in China 09/03

Astonishingly, all the prestigious mainstream media are reporting on the two annual sessions of China. The fate of the world has just been put in the hands of Beijing.

China plays a special part. In 2009, the overall global economy declined by 2.2% while China outshined other great economies by increasing 8.7%. Almost no other country can play a role in drawing the world out of the crisis and back on track. Therefore, reports from the sessions can affect the ebb and flow in the stock market.

As we all know, China saved the world economy from a grave crisis. And what will become of the future? It is said that China, with $2.4 trillion foreign exchange reserves, will continue to stabilize the US dollar. The world media reports on this issue and discourse on relevant opinions from representatives of the Two Sessions. Another significant topic to emerge is China’s social model.

Chinese people have always been adept at keeping the old shell and at the same time changing its core. What kind of system does China belong to? Is there anything invisible at work? Is this system working all right?

The essence of this National People’s Congress can be boiled down to the social balancing policy initiated by Chinese leaders. They came close to excoriating the old extensive mode of economic growth at the expense of resources.

Although the Chinese economy has been growing at a fast rate for 30 years, the domestic gap between the rich and poor is widening, which is very dangerous in any country, but worse in China. Premier Wen Jiabao said in the National People’s Congress that the government would attach much importance to income distribution.

Very interestingly, this "red" policy is supported by many foreign investors and observers, because it can help improve the purchasing power of the middle class and further China’s effort to save the world. That is, both the West and the East hope China will adopt more socialist policies, which is unprecedented.

RIA Novosti: Beijing moves to mend ties with Washington 08/03

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi has called for joint efforts to promote a return to better relations with the United States, Xinhua reported on Monday.

"The responsibility for the current difficulty in Sino-U.S. relations does not lie with China," Yang said.

He said that Chinese-U.S. ties "had a good start" when President Obama took office last year but, U.S. arms sales to Taiwan and U.S. leaders' meetings with the Dalai Lama "caused a serious disturbance to Chinese-U.S. ties."

"The moves undermined China's core interests and the overall interests of China-U.S. relations, and China is firmly opposed to these moves," he said.

He urged the United States to take seriously China's position and respect China's core interests and major concerns with credible steps.
