SUVA -- Fiji and China celebrated the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries on Wednesday evening.
The function in Suva was attended by Fiji President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, Foreign Affairs Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola and most members of the diplomatic corp.
Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Han Zhiqiang at the reception said China and Fiji have maintained and developed long standing cooperative and friendly relations, acknowledging Nailatikau's role as initiator of the historic process to further strengthen ties between the two countries.
"We respect each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, support each other's social and economic development and have close cooperation on international affairs," said Han.
Kubuabola also said that the two countries value one another. "The ties between the two countries have been a mutual one with non interference in their internal affairs," he stressed.
Kubuabola announced that as part of this great relationship Fiji was going to establish a consul office in Shanghai soon. "Fiji's look North policy will strengthen these ties," he said.
