Chinese vice premier meets  NZ senior official

BEIJING -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu met here on Monday with New Zealand's Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples.

Hui said China and New Zealand have continuously pushed forward cooperation in all areas benefiting the peoples of the two countries, and have contributed to the harmony and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region.

"We are willing to work with New Zealand to promote substantial cooperation in the spirit of mutual respect and seek common ground while reserving difference so as to achieve positive outcomes for both sides," said Hui.

He said the Chinese government has paid great attention to its ethnic groups and seeks to resolve any ethnic issues in accordance with the domestic situation.

He said China would consolidate the equal and harmonious relationship of mutual help among all ethnic groups.

Sharples said he hoped to improve mutual understanding between the two peoples and relations of the two countries through his China visit.
