China, S.Korea make efforts to push bilateral ties

SEOUL -- China and South Korea on Monday agreed to make joint efforts to further promote the strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

The agreement was reached while South Korean President Lee Myung-bak met with Chen Zhili, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature.

During the meeting, Chen, who is on a three-day trip in Seoul, positively assessed the development of China-South Korea relations since the establishment of the diplomatic ties in 1992.

China attaches importance to its relations with South Korea, Chen said, noting that China hopes the two sides will make joint efforts to deepen their strategic cooperative partnership, and will work for further expanding common interests to benefit the two nations and their peoples.

Lee Myung-bak echoed with Chen's remark, saying that Seoul is willing to make concerted efforts with China to further widen and deepen exchanges and cooperation between the two nations in various areas, and work for a higher-level strategic cooperative partnership.

Chen also held talks with Seoul National Assembly Speaker Park Hee-tae Monday. During the meeting, the two sides pledged to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two nation's legislatures to contribute to the development of the bilateral ties.

Chen, invited by South Korea's National Assembly, arrived here on Sunday for attending the fifth meeting of the parliamentary exchange between the two countries. The NPC and South Korea's National Assembly launched the regular exchange scheme in January 2006.
