BEIJING -- The referendum in Kyrgyzstan is Kyrgyzstan's internal affair and China respects the choice of the Kyrgyz people, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang Tuesday.
The referendum concerned a new constitution. "China noticed the referendum proceeded peacefully Sunday, and that a preliminary result was announced by Kyrgyzstan's Central Electoral Committee," Qin said.
Qin added that China hopes the situation in Kyrgyzstan will stabilize as soon as possible and social order will return to normal as early as possible.
China will develop a good-neighborly relationship as always based on friendship and cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, and will continue to provide the nation with assistance, including humanitarian aid.
