BEIRUT - Chinese Middle East envoy Wu Sike met with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri on Saturday and talked about bilateral ties and Middle East peace process.

Wu said that China supports a comprehensive and fair solution of Middle East issues based on related United Nations' resolutions and Arab Peace Initiative.

"China also supports Arab countries including Lebanon's pursuit of legal and just national interest and rights," said Wu, adding that a comprehensive solution of the Middle East issues be reached through talks.

Wu said that China attaches great importance to the friendly cooperations with Lebanon, and wishes to discuss new ways to step up the bilateral ties.

Earlier this morning, Wu also met with Lebanese foreign minister Ali Shami. Shami said that Lebanon appreciated China's resolute stance on supporting Arab countries' just causes, and its great contributions to Middle East issues as a permanent UN Security Council member state. He said Lebanon hopes that China will play a more active role in Middle East peace process.

Wu arrived in Lebanon on Saturday from Syria, and will fly to Saudi Arabia on Saturday evening. He kicked off his Middle East trip last Saturday in Israel.
