About 400 rescuers are currently working at the Jiaonan Coal Mine in Jincheng to pump out water and trying to reach the trapped miners.

A total of 75 workers were inside the coal mine when the flooding occurred, of whom 64 were lifted to the ground safely, said Zhu Hongyuan, general manager of Tian'an Donggou Mining Ltd., which runs the coal mine.

He did not explain what caused the flooding, and said it was still not clear exactly when the accident occurred.
