WELLINGTON - A third person has been arrested over the death of Auckland 18-year-old Chinese student Jiayi Li, also known as Kiko, police said Thursday.

Earlier this week Li's body was found in the boot of her car, two weeks after she went missing.

Two Chinese men aged 18 and 20 have been charged with Li's murder and were remanded in custody when they appeared in court on Wednesday. They were granted interim name suppression for 48 hours to allow time to inform family in China of the charges.

Now police said a 19-year-old student was arrested on Thursday evening and he will appear in the Auckland District Court on Friday charged with "accessory after the fact of murder".

Meanwhile, Li's parents are on their way to New Zealand from the Chinese capital Beijing and they are due to arrive on Friday morning to meet with detectives to try to make sense of what has happened to their daughter. About 20 New Zealand police continue to work on the case.
