WELLINGTON - Auckland police are increasingly concerned for the safety of a young Chinese woman whose disappearance they believe to be out of character.

Nineteen-year-old Jiayi Li, also known as Kiko, was last seen dropping off a friend in Kingsland, Auckland city suburb in New Zealand, in the early hours of May 19.

Police said that, while they were still in the early stages of the investigation, initial inquiries showed that Li's cellphone hadn't been used since she was last seen. She left her wallet at home in Sandringham and it appeared her bank account had not been touched.

They said there was no evidence at this point that foul play was involved.

Li was described as being about 160 centimetres tall, of slim to medium build, with shoulder-length straight, dark brown hair and a skull-and-crossbones tattoo on her left forearm.
