Nine Chinese workers have been arrested at the Russian Primorsky Krai border for illegally trying to cross into China, the Global Times reports today, citing a Russian newspaper.

The nine workers are overseas workers who confessed during the investigation that they felt suffering working at a nearby Russian farm, according to the report on the Russian newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda, citing a statement issued Monday by Russian security sources at the border.

The nine, arrested on Sunday, are likely to face five years in prison according to local law.

Representative of Consulate General of PRC in Khabarovsk Krai said they had yet to receive any official information from the Russians. They have vowed to closely monitor the matter to ensure the workers' rights.
