Man hiding heroin in stomach arrested in Macao

MACAO - Macao's Judiciary Police has arrested a man who attempted to smuggle 77 capsules of heroin into the city by carrying them in his stomach, the Macao Post Daily reported on Monday.

The 43-year-old suspect, who had entered Macao before, was arrested following a random check upon his arrival at the Macao International Airport on a flight from Kuala Lumpur.

The X-ray check revealed that the suspect surnamed Jansen, had swallowed 77 capsules of heroin with a total weight of 955 grams, the daily quoted a Judiciary Police as saying.

The spokesman also said that the suspect admitted that he would be paid HK$20,000 ($2,500) once he smuggled the drugs into the Chinese mainland via Macao.

The seized drugs were estimated to have a street value of over 1 million patacas ($125,000), according to the spokesman.

The suspect has been transferred to Macao's Public Prosecution for further investigations.
