Gyeongju, South Korea - Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with his Japanese counterpart Katsuya Okada on Saturday, pledging further boost cooperation and exchanges between the two nations.

The top diplomats hailed the bilateral ties during the meeting, which took place ahead of a trilateral foreign ministers' meeting of China, Japan and South Korea.

Yang said the China-Japan relations had taken on a good momentum of development since the beginning of this year, citing the meeting between Chinese President Hu Jintao and Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama in Washington last month on the sidelines of Nuclear Security Summit, during which the two sides reached a series of consensus on further deepening China-Japan strategic mutually-beneficial ties.

He said China will make more efforts to further promote the bilateral relations.

Yang expressed appreciation for Japan's support on ongoing Shanghai Expo, and hoped that the two nations could grasp the opportunity to strengthen people-to-people exchanges and enhance the friendly feelings between the two peoples.

Echoing Yang's views, Okada said Japan is willing to make joint efforts with China to push the bilateral ties to a new height.
