Speaking on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Denmark, Espersen said the bilateral relations now are strong, on the right track and developing rapidly.

Espersen attended receptions held in the Chinese embassy in Denmark marking the event, saying the 60th anniversary is "an important milestone" for both countries.

She spoke highly of China's achievements over the past decades.

China has truly played an increasingly important role on international affairs, such as climate change, financial stability, regional conflits and trade, she said.

She said that although the two countries have different political systems, they have developed relations based on mutual respect, making it possible for them to address difficult issues in a constructive manner.

Denmark was among the first Western nations to establish diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China -- on May 11, 1950.

Chinese Ambassador to Denmark Xie Hangsheng said that the frequent exchange of high-level visits has been conducive to increasing mutual political trust and understanding between the two countries.

He also said that the two countries share similar views on many international issues and have enjoyed smooth cooperation within the framework of the United Nations, the Aia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and other international mechanisms.

The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs also held receptions on Tuesday to celebrate the 60th annivesary of the establishment of Sino-Danish diplomatic ties.
