DPRK lauds China's quake relief efforts

PYONGYANG - The official Rodong Sinmun newspaper praised China's quick response to the strong earthquake which hit northwest China's Qinghai Province last month.

In an article published on Tuesday, the paper said China's disaster relief efforts were deployed quickly, especially a well-organized system ensured that relief efforts can be carried out efficiently."

It said the special Party membership dues, materials and money donated by the people contributed a great deal to the resumption of the normal life in disaster-stricken area and gave moral support to the quake victims.

It also said the people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea wishes the Chinese people would minimize the earthquake losses and restore their stable life as soon as possible.

At least 2,200 people were killed and more than 100,000 left homeless when the 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit Yushu Prefecture, Qinghai Province on April 14.
