KUNMING - Police have detained the driver of a truck that crashed killing 14 passengers Tuesday in southwest China's Yunnan Province.
Sha Xueying, had no driver's license, when he was driving the vehicle, which rolled down a 100-meter-deep valley en route to Ninglang Yi Autonomous County from neighboring Huaping County, a spokesman for the Yunnan provincial government said.
The truck was designed to carry a maximum of three people, but it had 23 people aboard when the accident happened at about 2 p.m. in Lijiang City, he said.
One seriously injured passenger was in a stable condition in Pangang General Hospital in Panzhihua City, southwest China's Sichuan Province, said the spokesman.
Three other slightly injured passengers were being treated at the Huaping County's Chinese Traditional Medicine Hospital, he said.
