A student jumped to his death from the sixth floor of his dormitory Thursday afternoon in a high school in Meizhou city of Guangdong, just days after another student was seriously injured after jumping, the Yangcheng Evening News reported Friday.

The 19-year-old was set to take this year's college entrance examination in June, but ranked low in academic performance and was an introvert, according to a teacher in charge of the class.

The teen lost his mother when he was 5 years old, and his father was gone, working in Huizhou all year long, the teacher said, adding that he had talked a lot with the student and encouraged him to exercise more after finding him suffering from headaches and taking pills in March.

The student in the April 5 incident is now out of danger, the newspaper said.

The school had been paying too much attention to students' academic performances and didn't do well in their psychological guidance, especially for those students whose parents were working elsewhere, the school master said.
