A 70-year old man has mapped out a 5,000-km-long bike journey to tour five provinces and one municipality to visit their most historic spots and natural landscapes, according to Yangtze Evening News.

Li Xianfeng, a retired teacher in east China's Jiangsu province who set off on Wednesday, has been fascinated with ancient Chinese poetry, most of which depict natural scenery and historic sites.

"I have had the idea in mind for years to pay a visit to these sights with my own eyes," said the retiree.

He is well-prepared for the bike journey which will cover Anhui, Henan, Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi province as well as Suqian municipality in Jiangsu province.

"I did a lot of homework searching for the destinations'history, culture and tales online," he said.

Apart from basics with him, Li bought a brand-new bicycle for this tough travel. "It’s a challenge for me and I want to visit more places and learn from sightseeing before I get too old," the 70-year old added.
