The largest rewards will be given for information on bombings and major gun-related crimes, including murder, robbery, kidnapping and rape, said a statement on the ministry's website, www.mps.gov.cn.

Tip-offs that help crack crimes involving illegal production and sale of explosives, guns, ammunition, and virulent chemicals, will also be eligible for the highest reward.

The police also encourage the public to report illegal possession of guns, ammunition, explosives and raw materials which could be used to make explosives.

The MPS urged police authorities at local levels to deal with the public reports seriously and timely. The public could also report directly to the ministry via mail, e-mail and phone call.
