Chinese, Russian officials discuss cooperation

MOSCOW - Chinese Ambassador Li Hui met with Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov on Monday to exchange views on future cooperation between Beijing and Moscow as well as between the two countries.

Regional cooperation between China and Russia has become increasingly important since economic cooperation serves as a material basis for bilateral strategic partnership, said Li.

Moscow, as a significant part of the Sino-Russian bilateral cooperation and a friendly city of Beijing, has been engaged in extensive collaboration with Beijing on economy, culture and tourism, the ambassador said.

China will continue to adopt measures in order to expand such collaboration with Moscow, and Beijing intends to further interactions with Moscow, he said.

Luzhkov said the continuous development of the Sino-Russian strategic partnership of coordination has created a good environment for Moscow to engage in various kinds of interactions with China, from which Moscow has benefited a lot.

Moscow highly values the friendly relations with Beijing, hoping to deepen and broaden inter-city cooperation in fields such as high technology, said the mayor.

Luzhkov also invited municipal leaders of Beijing to visit Moscow and discuss these matters.
