The statement came as Liu Zhenmin, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, was speaking at the ceremony for the handover of the G-77 chairmanship from Sudan to Yemen. The ceremony took place at the UN Headquarters in New York on Friday afternoon.

Liu said that China donates $40,000 in 2010 to the G-77 Secretariat in order to support the work of the chairman and the Secretariat.

Present at the ceremony were UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Helen Clark, the administrator of the UN Development Program, Sha Zukang, the UN under-secretary-general for economic and social affairs and Supachai Panitchpakdi, the secretary-general of the UN Conference on Trade and Development.

G-77 was founded on June 15, 1964 by 77 developing countries, all of which were signatories to the "Joint Declaration of the Seventy-Seven Countries" issued at the end of the first session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva.
