The fifth International Forum of Chinese Media opened September 19 in Shanghai and up to 500 representatives of Chinese media and guests attended the biennial event.
The theme for this year’s forum is "Chinese media in international financial crisis" and "overseas Chinese media and Expo Shanghai".
The two-day forum included meetings of Chinese media, Expo keynote speeches and an Expo photo exhibition. Participants of the forum also visited the Expo site.
During the forum, participants discussed transport during Expo period, the operation of Expo 2010, improving habits of city residents and how to compile Expo tour guide books.
Yang Xiong, executive vice mayor of Shanghai and executive deputy director of the Executive Committee of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai, briefed the participants on the city’s efforts in improving the city’s services and in promoting World Expo.
Hong Kong Tai Kung Pao's Editor-in-Chief Jia Xiping said that the newspaper has been reporting Expo 2010 since the Shanghai's bidding for Expo 2010 and the newspaper has been focusing on Expo construction, city transport and Expo participation. He said that he believed the Expo 2010 will be very successful.
Hong Hao, director of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, said that Shanghai's bidding for Expo 2010 received support from overseas Chinese and Chinese citizen living overseas. He stressed that hosting the Expo 2010 also needs the full cooperation from overseas Chinese and Chinese citizen living overseas.
Hong said that the Chinese media have a big role to play in disseminating information about the Expo 2010 among Chinese across the world.
The forum is regarded as the Chinese media summit in the world.
